Breeding Dart Frogs
Overview of dart frog breeding behavior, egg care, and tadpole deposition.
Breeding Conditioning
Well-fed, mature frogs in stable conditions will breed naturally. Increase feeding frequency and introduce a rainy season simulation: more frequent misting, slightly cooler temperatures, and increased humidity for 2–4 weeks.
Egg Deposition
Most species deposit eggs in film canisters, bromeliad axils, or on leaves. Thumbnails prefer bromeliads; larger species use horizontal surfaces. Leave eggs in place unless you plan to raise tadpoles separately.
Tadpole Management
Remove tadpoles individually to small containers with aged RO water. Feed powdered algae, fish flakes, or specialized tadpole food. Perform partial water changes every 2–3 days.
